PAUL SMITHS — A forest fire off of state Route 30 near Paul Smith’s College that started early Friday afternoon was still burning through Friday evening.

In a rare “All Call,” the Franklin County emergency dispatch center asked all firefighters in the county to report to a staging area at the intersection of state routes 30 and 86 at the college’s gateway. Many local fire departments responded, including the Lake Placid, Bloomingdale, Saranac Lake, Moira, Westville, Bangor, Duane, Tupper Lake, Owls Head-Mount View and Paul Smiths-Gabriels volunteer fire departments.
